Retro wartime-inspired spiced cake with raisins, moist and perfect for winter.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 0.33300000429153 cup shortening
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
Instructions:
  • Combine brown sugar, water, raisins, shortening, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Boil for 3 minutes, then cool off the heat.
  • Preheat your oven to a cozy 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and generously grease and flour a 9-inch square pan before sifting together the flour and baking powder.
  • Combine the raisin mixture with the flour mixture in a large bowl, then pour into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the cake.
