"Quick and convenient refrigerator rolls with a sourdough twist"
Ingredients:
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
  • 0.75 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 2 cups lukewarm buttermilk
Instructions:
  • Activate the yeast by dissolving it in warm water. Let it sit until it becomes frothy.
  • Whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and soda in a large bowl. Add shortening and mix until crumbly. Stir in yeast mixture and buttermilk. Transfer to a greased bowl, cover well, and refrigerate. The dough may be sticky at first, but will firm up as it chills. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Prepare the desired amount of dough for rolls. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 2 to 3 minutes. Roll out the dough and cut into rolls. Arrange the rolls in greased muffin cups and allow them to rise for 30 minutes.
  • Place in a hot oven at 400°F (205°C) and bake for 15 minutes until beautifully golden brown.
