Family Christmas tradition: Colorful homemade cookies, red and green.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups unpopped popcorn
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup molasses
Instructions:
  • Pour 1 tablespoon of oil into a 4-quart saucepan over high heat until it shimmers. Add 1/2 cup of popping corn and continuously move the pan until popping stops. Transfer popped corn to a buttered bowl. Repeat until all corn is popped.
  • In a 2 quart saucepan, melt the butter, then stir in the sugar, molasses, and salt. Use a candy thermometer to boil the sugar mixture on medium heat until it reaches 260°F (126°C).
  • Drizzle syrup over corn, mixing popcorn well. Gently grease hands with butter and mold popcorn into 12 to 14 balls.
