Try these Elizabethan spiced cakes with a flavorful twist of allspice and turmeric. Goodbye paleo, hello delicious!
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup butter
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground turmeric
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Cream butter in a bowl until creamy, then add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg yolk.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, allspice, and turmeric. Sift the flour mixture into the butter mixture and mix until dough forms. Press the dough into a 9-inch square baking dish. Beat the egg white in a small bowl and brush it over the dough.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes or until the center of the cake feels firm when lightly pressed. Cut into squares while hot and let cool in the baking dish.
