Overnight bacon and cheese egg strata: layers of fluffy bread, bake for savory breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients:
  • 12 thick slices white bread, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1.5 cups chopped fresh mushrooms
  • 0.25 cup crumbled cooked bacon
  • 12 eggs
  • 2.5 cups half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Instructions:
  • Prepare all your fabulous ingredients.
  • Combine cubed bread, cheese, mushrooms, and bacon in a large bowl, then transfer to a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Combine eggs, half-and-half, and mustard in a bowl and whisk until silky smooth; pour the mixture evenly over the bread.
  • For optimal results, refrigerate the covered dish overnight. When it's time to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Uncover the baking dish and bake the strata in the preheated oven until the eggs are set and the top is golden brown, for about 1 hour. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
