French Orange Poached Pears (Poire Avec Orange)

Poached pears in sweet and spiced orange juice, a deliciously light French dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups orange juice without pulp
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 whole pears, peeled and cored
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
  • Combine orange juice, brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugars dissolve. Add pears to the syrup, cover, and simmer for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Spoon sauce over pears every 10 minutes and turn pears twice while cooking.
  • Transfer the pears to serving dishes. Cook the syrup until thickened for about 15 minutes, stirring frequently. Stir in the walnuts, then pour the sauce over the pears before serving.
