Indulgent French toast: a simple yet satisfying breakfast treat for any occasion.
Ingredients:
  • 160ml (2/3 cup) milk
  • 3 eggs, lightly whisked
  • 55g (1/4 cup) caster sugar
  • Pinch of mixed spice
  • 60g unsalted butter
  • 6 x 1cm-thick slices white bread
  • 1 x 250g punnet strawberries, hulled, washed, halved
  • 60ml (1/4 cup) maple syrup
  • Thickened cream, to serve
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, mix together milk, egg, sugar, and mixed spice. In a hot pan, melt half of the butter until foamy. Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture and cook in the pan for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Transfer to plates and repeat with remaining butter, bread, and egg mixture.
  • Place slices of toast on a plate, layer with fresh strawberries and a dollop of cream, then generously drizzle with maple syrup before serving.
