Prepare a decadent cream cheese-filled French toast casserole with strawberries the night before and bake it in the morning for a crowd-pleasing breakfast.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.66666668653488 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a cozy 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) and line a baking pan with bread cubes.
  • Toast bread cubes in the warm oven until they are crisp and beautifully golden, for around 20 minutes. Take them out and allow them to cool for about 10 minutes before using.
  • Butter the 9x13-inch casserole dish and add bread cubes, strawberries, and dollops of cream cheese in a playful arrangement.
  • Combine eggs, half-and-half, cream, sugar, and ginger in a separate medium bowl. Pour the mixture over the bread and strawberries, wrap with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 8 hours to overnight.
  • Let casserole sit at room temperature for 1 hour before baking.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for that perfect bake!
  • Prepare the irresistible streusel topping by blending sugar, flour, butter, and ginger together using a fork until a crumbly mixture forms.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes until set, then sprinkle streusel on top. Bake for an additional 30 minutes until golden. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
