Savor the satisfaction and health benefits of homemade tomato sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 36.40 gm olive oil
  • 5 medium brown onions, chopped
  • 8 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 5kg ripe tomatoes, peeled, chopped (see tip)
  • 277.50 gm tomato paste
  • 59.40 gm brown sugar
  • 500.00 ml fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan or stockpot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add onion and cook for 10 minutes until softened, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Stir in tomato, tomato paste, and sugar, cooking for 5 minutes. Pour in 2 1/2 cups of cold water, season with salt and pepper. Cover, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 3 hours, stirring occasionally until the sauce slightly thickens.
  • Add the fresh aroma of basil to the mixture. Let it simmer without a lid for 15 minutes. Take it off the heat and allow it to cool down completely.
  • Transfer the sauce into airtight containers, spooning 1 cup into each batch. Remember to label each container before freezing for future use.
