Irresistibly crunchy onion rings are a perfect snack.
Ingredients:
  • 187.50 ml plain flour
  • 1.00 gm baking powder
  • 250.00 ml soda water
  • Vegetable oil, for shallow frying
  • 2 medium red onions, sliced, rings separated
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, gently sift the flour and baking powder together. Season with a dash of salt and pepper. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Slowly whisk in the soda water until a smooth, thin batter forms.
  • Pour a generous amount of oil into a large frying pan, making sure it comes up the side about 2cm. Heat over medium-high heat until hot.
  • Coat onion rings in batter, ensuring they're well covered. Remove excess batter by shaking gently. Fry in batches until golden brown (1 to 2 minutes per batch). Place on paper towel-lined tray to drain. Serve hot.
