Crispy Air Fryer Onion Rings made with sweet onions, coated with breading, and paired with a tangy French fry dip.
Ingredients:
  • For the onion rings
  • 3 medium sweet yellow onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 4 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • Nonstick spray, for cooking
  • Minced parsley, garnish (optional)
  • For the easy fry dip
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
Instructions:
  • To prepare the onion rings, cut off the non-root end of the onions and peel them. Slice the onions into 1/4-inch thick slices and separate to form rings. For thicker onion rings, slice them up to 1/2-inch thick.
  • Prepare the breading station: In one medium bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper. In another medium bowl, whisk together eggs and milk until well combined. Place panko breadcrumbs in a third medium-sized bowl.
  • Coat onion rings: First, cover onion rings in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs in the panko bowl. Press the breadcrumbs onto the rings with your dry hand for better adhesion. Place the breaded onion rings on a plate.
  • Prepare and air fry the onion rings: Coat the onion rings and the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray. Arrange the onion rings in a single layer in the basket. Air fry at 350°F for 5 minutes, flip, then air fry for another 5 minutes. Remove and repeat until all onion rings are air fried.
  • Create the delectable fry sauce by blending the mayonnaise and ketchup in a small bowl.
  • To serve the onion rings, optionally garnish with parsley and serve hot. You can store the air-fried onion rings in a 200˚F oven while making additional batches. Enjoy with fry sauce or your preferred dipping sauce.
