Elevate your side dish game with a beautiful blooming onion using pantry staples.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (about 250g) large brown onion
  • 60ml (1/4 cup) milk
  • 50g (1/3 cup) plain flour
  • 2.50 gm sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Sweet chilli sauce, to serve
  • Sour cream, to serve
  • Chopped fresh chives, to serve
Instructions:
  • Slice off the top end of the onion and peel it. Place it cut side down on a board and make 10 vertical cuts from the top towards the base, stopping about 1cm from the bottom. Gently separate the onion layers to create "petals."
  • Combine the whisked egg and milk in a jug. In a small bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Coat the onion in the flour mixture, ensuring to fill any gaps, then shake off excess and set aside. Drizzle the egg mixture over the onion, then sprinkle with the remaining flour mixture. Spray with olive oil and cook in an air fryer at 180C for 15 minutes, spraying with oil halfway through, until golden and crisp. Serve with sweet chili sauce, sour cream, and chives.
