From Scratch Cream of Chicken Soup

Upgrade your usual canned cream of chicken soup with this wholesome homemade version made entirely from scratch.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups chicken broth, or more as needed
  • 1 cup whole milk, divided
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup cream
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, or more as needed
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, bring 2 cups chicken broth, 1/2 cup milk, poultry seasoning, turmeric, onion powder, garlic, paprika, pepper, and cayenne to a boil.
  • Whisk together cream, flour, and remaining milk in a bowl. Gradually add a ladle or two of hot broth mixture while whisking briskly. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan, and bring to a boil while whisking constantly. Cook until thickened for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Adjust the consistency by adding more broth or flour. Taste and adjust seasoning accordingly.
