Scrumptious Strawberry Shortcake

Decadent strawberry shortcake made from scratch with buttery cream and sweet sugared berries.
Ingredients:
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.75 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 0.66666668653488 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 3 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
Instructions:
  • Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and cream of tartar. Use a pastry blender or 2 knives to cut in the butter. Stir in cream and egg until well combined, then transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  • Knead dough for 2 minutes until smooth. Flatten into a 1/2-inch-thick sheet, then cut into squares and arrange on baking sheets.
  • Bake at the perfect temperature until beautifully golden, approximately 20 minutes. Let the shortcakes cool.
  • In a medium bowl, toss strawberries with sugar until combined. Split cooled shortcakes in half and top with sweetened berries.
