Turn frozen strawberries into a delicious cake with a sweet strawberry sauce!
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.25 cups white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 cup shortening (such as Crisco®)
  • 0.5 cup sour cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 (16 ounce) packages frozen strawberries, thawed and juice reserved
  • 0.33333334326744 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and grease/flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Add shortening, sour cream, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 3 minutes. Gently fold in strawberries and pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, approximately 40 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes, then loosen edges with a knife. Carefully invert onto a serving plate or cooling rack and cool for about 30 minutes.
  • After the cake has cooled, elevate your dessert game by creating a luscious strawberry sauce. Simply heat the reserved strawberry juice in a pan until it boils. Combine water with cornstarch, then incorporate the mixture into the juice. Stir and cook until the sauce reaches a thick, indulgent consistency. Drizzle this delectable sauce over your cake and enjoy a burst of flavor in every bite.
