Innovative turkey cooking method yields delicious results with or without seasoning.
Ingredients:
  • aluminum foil
  • 15 inch wooden stake
  • 1 (12 pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed
  • new 15 gallon metal garbage can with lid
Instructions:
  • Spread out 3 large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil on a flat surface. Insert the wooden stake in the center of the foil.
  • Lay a generous mound of charcoal on the lid of the garbage can and ignite it. Position the whole, thawed turkey on a stake with the legs facing downwards. Invert the garbage can over the turkey and add more lit coals on top and around the sides of the can.
  • Cook the turkey over charcoal for at least 1 1/2 hours until the coals extinguish. Avoid moving the can during cooking. Afterward, brush off the charcoal, carefully lift the can to release any trapped heat, and ensure the turkey reaches an internal temperature of 180°F (83°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
