Delicious Indian-inspired side dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tsp dried yeast
  • 5.00 gm caster sugar
  • 50g butter
  • 437.50 ml plain flour
  • 2.40 gm salt
  • 40.00 ml plain yoghurt
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, combine yeast and sugar. Add 1/2 cup warm water and whisk to dissolve yeast. Cover and let it sit in a warm place for 10 minutes, or until frothy.
  • Melt half of the butter in a microwave-safe bowl on low (25%) for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Combine sifted flour and salt in a bowl. Mix in the yeast mixture, yogurt, and melted butter. Stir until a soft dough forms. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Transfer the dough to a generously greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a cozy spot for 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size. Once risen, gently punch down the dough, then transfer it to a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is smooth and stretchy. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions, and roll each portion into a 20cm oval using a rolling pin. Repeat with the remaining portions.
  • - Cover a large baking tray with foil. - Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. - Place 2 naan bread on the prepared tray. - Melt the remaining butter in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds to 1 minute on low until melted. - Mix the garlic with the melted butter. - Brush the naan bread with the butter mixture. - Grill for 2 minutes, then flip. - Brush with more butter mixture. - Grill for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until golden and puffed. - Remove from the grill and loosely wrap in foil. - Repeat the process with the remaining naan bread and butter mixture. - Let them rest for 5 minutes before tearing into large pieces and serving.
