Delicious fruit-coated popcorn balls -- a classic crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients:
  • 10 cups popped popcorn
  • 1 cup butter
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 1 (3 ounce) package fruit flavored Jell-O® mix
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 3 tablespoons water
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease a 1/4 sheet pan or two 8x12 inch baking dishes, and don't skimp on the butter for the heavy 2 quart saucepan.
  • Evenly spread out the popcorn in the prepared baking pans, then place in the oven to keep warm.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt together butter, sugar, gelatin, corn syrup, and water. Heat until the mixture reaches 250 to 265 degrees F (121 to 129 degrees C) or until a small amount dropped into cold water forms a rigid ball.
  • Spread the mixture over the popcorn, ensuring each kernel is well coated. Place the popcorn back in the oven for a total of 10 minutes, stirring halfway through.
  • Transfer the popcorn onto a large piece of foil. Allow it to cool until you can handle it easily, then shape into balls. Alternatively, let it cool completely and break it into clusters. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
