Indulge in a decadent German chocolate pie, featuring a luxurious homemade chocolate filling and a delightful coconut-pecan topping.
Ingredients:
  • 0.33300000429153 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9 inch) pie crust, baked
  • 1 (5 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 1.3332999944687 cups flaked coconut
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans
Instructions:
  • In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, whisk together 1/3 cup of sugar and cornstarch. Add milk, chocolate, and 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook and stir until the mixture thickens and bubbles. Lower the heat and continue to cook and stir for about 2 more minutes.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk 2 egg yolks until smooth. Gradually add about 1 cup of the warm chocolate mixture to the eggs to prevent curdling. Pour the egg-chocolate mixture back into the saucepan and bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 more minutes. Add vanilla and stir well.
  • Gently fill the warm chocolate mixture into the baked pie crust.
  • Whisk together 1 beaten egg, evaporated milk, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup butter in a separate saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble. Gently fold in the coconut and pecans.
  • Evenly distribute the pecan mixture on top of the chocolate filling. Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack, then chill thoroughly before serving.
