Impress your date this Valentine's with a giant heart-shaped pan cookie topped with colorful M&M's®.
Ingredients:
  • cooking spray
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.25 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 0.25 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, or more as needed
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup candy-coated milk chocolate pieces (such as M&M's®), or to taste
Instructions:
  • Place a heart-shaped parchment paper cut-out at the bottom of a greased aluminum pan.
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • In the stand mixer bowl with the paddle attachment, cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Then, add egg and vanilla, mixing until batter is well combined with about 50 strokes.
  • Combine flour, salt, and baking soda in a small bowl. Gently fold the flour mixture into the batter until thick but spreadable, using about 100 strokes. Gently mix in milk chocolate pieces. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly with a spatula, leaving a 1-inch margin from the sides.
  • Place the baking sheet on the middle shelf of the preheated oven and bake until the edges are golden brown and the middle is set, for 18 to 23 minutes. Once out of the oven, press any leftover milk chocolate pieces into the warm cookie for added decoration.
  • Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then gently transfer to a cooling rack and peel off the parchment paper.
