Succulent ginger and five-spice pork - a guaranteed crowd-pleaser!
Ingredients:
  • 60ml soy sauce
  • 40.00 ml Chinese rice wine (shaohsing)*
  • 20.00 gm caster sugar
  • 2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp five-spice powder
  • 4 x 160g butterflied pork steaks, trimmed
  • 1 telegraph cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 100g snow pea sprouts, trimmed
  • Juice of 1 lime, plus wedges to serve
  • 18.40 gm vegetable oil
Instructions:
  • In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, wine, sugar, ginger, and 1 teaspoon of five-spice powder. Add pork and coat evenly. Chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  • In a bowl, mix the cucumber and sprouts with lime juice and the rest of the five-spice powder.
  • In a large frypan, heat oil over medium heat. Cook pork for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Serve with cucumber salad and lime wedges. Optional substitution: dry sherry for flavor. *Ingredients available at Asian food shops and selected supermarkets.
