Satisfy picky eaters with quick and flavorful Ginger-Soy Steamed Salmon topped with Spicy Maple Sauce. Perfect for busy nights!
Ingredients:
  • For the salmon:
  • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds fresh salmon, skin on
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 large head bok choy
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • To serve:
  • Cooked long grain white rice , optional
  • Roasted sesame seeds, garnish
  • DAD ADD: Spicy Maple Sauce
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
Instructions:
  • Prepare the salmon by cutting a large side into 4-ounce to 6-ounce portions, remove any pin bones using tweezers, and season with salt and pepper. (You can also ask your fishmonger to remove the bones if preferred.)
  • Arrange the bok choy leaves on the top tray of the bamboo steamer, followed by the salmon filets, skin side down. Top with sliced ginger and lemon slices.
  • Layer the remaining bok choy leaves (roughly chopped) and sliced red pepper in the bottom steamer tray. Drizzle a tablespoon of soy sauce on top of the vegetables. Enjoy the flavors melding together!
  • Prepare the steamer: Stack the steamer baskets with veggies on the bottom and salmon on top, then place the bamboo lid. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Set up the steamer over the pot, ensuring it slightly overlaps without touching the water. Steam the fish and veggies for 16 to 20 minutes until fish flakes easily with a fork. Adjust steaming time if needed. Enjoy perfectly cooked salmon and tender veggies!
  • Prepare the spicy maple sauce: Simply combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer over low heat. Stir occasionally for 4 to 5 minutes until the sauce coats the back of a spoon. Be vigilant to prevent boiling over. Once done, remove from heat and allow it to cool for a thicker consistency.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving: Use oven mitts to take out the steaming tray (it will be very hot). Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve the dish by adding additional soy sauce and sprinkling sesame seeds for extra flavor. Drizzle Maple Sauce over the fish and serve with cooked rice.
