Make decorating cookies a blast at kids' parties with already baked hand-shaped cookies for a yummy and interactive favor option.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 to 3 1/2 tablespoons milk
  • Betty Crocker™ decorating icings (in 4.25-oz tubes)
  • Assorted small candies
Instructions:
  • Combine granulated sugar and butter in a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer on medium speed or mix with a spoon. Add in vanilla and eggs, followed by flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour until firm.
  • Trace around your hand on medium-weight cardboard or sturdy plastic designed for crafts and cut out the shape to make a hand outline.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Roll out half of the dough on a lightly floured surface until it's 3/16 inch thick. Cut out hand shapes using either a hand-shaped cookie cutter or by tracing around your hand with a pastry wheel or knife. Place the hand shapes on an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 6 to 8 minutes until the center springs back when touched. Transfer to a cooling rack and let cool completely for about 30 minutes.
  • Mix the glaze ingredients in a small bowl until smooth and spreadable. Spread the glaze over the cookies and decorate with icings and candies as desired.
