Indulge in zesty orange nut cookies - a delightful treat!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons grated orange peel
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped slivered almonds
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 4 to 5 teaspoons water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange peel
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (375°F for dark or nonstick cookie sheet). In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to blend butter, 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons of orange peel, and 1 teaspoon of almond extract until smooth. Stir in flour, salt, and almonds until fully combined.
  • Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing them 1 inch apart. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes until the edges are lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely, which should take about 30 minutes.
  • Combine all glaze ingredients in a small bowl, adding water until it reaches a pourable consistency. In a separate small bowl, combine topping ingredients. Dip the tops of cookies in the glaze, then dip them in the topping mixture. Optionally, place cookies in miniature paper baking cups.
