Elevate your meals with versatile homemade egg bread perfect for sandwiches, bread pudding, or French toast.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups warm water (110 to 115 degrees F/43 to 46 degrees C)
  • 6 tablespoons honey
  • 1.5 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 6 cups bread flour, divided, or more as needed
  • 0.25 cup olive oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons vital wheat gluten
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon salt
Instructions:
  • In a stand mixer with the dough hook attached, mix water, honey, and yeast together. Allow the mixture to sit until it becomes foamy, approximately 10 minutes.
  • Combine flour, olive oil, eggs, wheat gluten, and butter with the yeast mixture in a stand mixer on low speed for 2-3 minutes until well incorporated. Add salt and the remaining flour, mix until dough forms. Knead on low speed for 5-7 minutes until dough pulls away from the sides. If sticky, add 1/4 cup flour at a time, kneading for 2 minutes after each addition until dough is smooth and pulls away from the sides, about 5-7 minutes total.
  • Prepare a generously greased bowl.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let it rise in a warm spot for 60 to 90 minutes, until doubled in size.
  • Gently deflate dough and shape into 2 loaves. Transfer each into a 9x5-inch loaf pan or onto a baking sheet. Allow to double in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake until golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 200 degrees F (93 degrees C, 25-30 minutes in a preheated oven.
