Create divine French cheese puffs by combining dough with cheese and savory ham for a delightful appetizer.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1.5 thin slices deli ham, finely chopped
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a saucepan, bring water, butter, and salt to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and swiftly add 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour. Combine well using a wooden spoon. Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until a smooth, sticky paste is achieved. Fold in Gruyère cheese and ham until fully incorporated into the dough.
  • Spoon generous amounts of dough onto the baking sheet, ensuring there is enough space between each to allow for proper rising during baking.
  • Bake at the set temperature until beautifully golden and puffed up, around 20 minutes. Then, transfer the gougeres to a plate to cool.
