Green beans with olive oil

Delicious winter side: Green beans in savory tomato sauce.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 125ml (1/2 cup) olive oil
  • 2 brown onions, finely chopped
  • 550g green beans, topped, each bean cut into three pieces
  • 1 400g can Italian whole peeled tomatoes, drained
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper
Instructions:
  • In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, sauté onions in oil for 3 minutes. Stir in beans and tomatoes, cooking uncovered until tomatoes start to break up, about 3 minutes.
  • Sprinkle allspice into the pan and generously season with salt and pepper. Lower the heat and simmer covered, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes until beans are tender and the sauce thickens slightly. Cover and set aside until needed.
