Delicious beefy bean burgers packed with protein and fiber, ready in under 30 minutes from Betty Crocker's popular cookbooks.
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 lb extra-lean (at least 90%) ground beef
  • 1 can (15 to 16 oz) great northern beans, drained, rinsed
  • 1/4 cup finely crushed saltine crackers (about 7 squares)
  • 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • Leaf lettuce, if desired
  • 5 whole-grain hamburger buns, split
  • 5 teaspoons barbecue sauce
  • Sliced tomato and sliced onion, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat gas or charcoal grill. Combine beef, beans, cracker crumbs, 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce, pepper, and egg in a large bowl. Form mixture into 5 patties, each about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Prepare the grill by lightly oiling the rack. Grill the patties over medium heat with the lid on for 5 minutes. Flip the patties and continue cooking covered for an additional 5 to 6 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  • On the bottom halves of the buns, layer lettuce, patties, and spread 1 teaspoon of barbecue sauce on each patty. Add tomato and onion, then cover with the top buns.
