Create mouthwatering BBQ chicken legs using a tangy BBQ sauce and zesty Italian dressing marinade for a deliciously crispy result.
Ingredients:
  • 3 cups sweet barbeque sauce
  • 1 cup Italian salad dressing
  • 4 (8 ounce) bone-in chicken legs with skin
  • hickory wood chips as needed
Instructions:
  • Combine the barbecue sauce and salad dressing.
  • Place chicken legs in a spacious zip-top bag and generously coat them with the sauce. Remove any air and tightly seal the bag. Gently massage the marinade into the chicken, then refrigerate for 4 hours.
  • Allow the chicken to sit at room temperature on the counter for about 1 hour to come to room temperature.
  • Prepare the outdoor grill by preheating it to medium-low heat and lightly oiling the grate. Place a smoker box filled with wood chips on the grate.
  • Take the chicken out of the bag and place it on the hot grill. Cook covered for 10 minutes. Flip the chicken and brush both sides with the leftover marinade.
  • Cook the chicken with the lid closed, watching for flare-ups, until no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, approximately 10 minutes more. Use an instant-read thermometer near the bone; it should show 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
  • Transfer the chicken to a platter and cover loosely with foil. Allow it to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
