Quick and easy sandwich perfect for grilling or campfire cooking.
Ingredients:
  • 1 loaf Italian bread (10 to 12 inches)
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown or country-style Dijon mustard
  • 6 slices (1 oz each) Swiss cheese
  • 3/4 lb thinly sliced fully cooked ham
Instructions:
  • Preheat grill. Prepare a large sheet of heavy-duty foil by spraying it with cooking spray. Cut a loaf of bread into 12 (3/4-inch) slices without fully separating them, keeping them attached at the bottom.
  • Mix together rich butter and tangy mustard. Spread slightly under 2 teaspoons of the mustard mixture on alternating slices of bread to make 6 sandwiches. Fold each slice of cheese in half diagonally and place in the sandwiches. Distribute the ham equally among the sandwiches, ensuring they fit well. Place the assembled loaf in the center of a piece of foil. Seal the edges by making a tight 1/2-inch fold, then fold again, leaving room for heat to circulate and for the sandwich to expand as it cooks.
  • Grill the foil-wrapped loaf over medium heat, covering the grill. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes until the cheese is melted and the loaf is hot, turning it frequently. When serving, carefully open the packet to release steam, remove the foil, and pull apart the sandwiches.
