Grilled Mediterranean Tuna Steaks

Mediterranean-inspired grilled tuna with tomato, olives, and basil.
Ingredients:
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped (3/4 cup)
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese (1 ounce)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped kalamata or ripe olives
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or oregano leaves
  • 1/4 cup olive or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 tuna steaks, 1 inch thick (about 2 pounds)
Instructions:
  • Combine ripe tomatoes, creamy cheese, briny olives, and a generous sprinkle of fresh basil in a bowl. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
  • Coat the grill rack with cooking spray and preheat the coals or gas grill for direct heat.
  • Combine the remaining 2 tablespoons of basil with the oil, garlic salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Brush the mixture over the tuna.
  • Place the tuna on the grill, leaving it uncovered, and position it 4 inches away from medium-high heat. Cook for 5 minutes. Carefully turn the tuna and brush it with any leftover oil mixture. Continue grilling for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the tuna flakes easily with a fork. Serve the grilled tuna topped with the tomato mixture.
