Ingredients:
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 1 cup ketchup or 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cut-up whole chicken (3 to 3 1/2 lb)
Instructions:
  • Preheat gas or charcoal grill. In a 1-quart saucepan, gently simmer sauce ingredients over medium heat until they come to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  • Combine 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon paprika, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a small bowl. Season both sides of the chicken with the salt mixture.
  • Brush the grill rack with a delicate touch of vegetable oil. Gently place the chicken, skin side up, on the heated grill. Cover and cook for 15 minutes over medium heat.
  • Continue grilling the chicken, turning and brushing with barbecue sauce, for an additional 20 to 25 minutes until chicken is fully cooked and reaches an internal temperature of 170°F for breasts and 180°F for thighs and legs.
