Tangy hot sandwiches beat cold deli any day!
Ingredients:
  • 1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion (1/2 medium)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup undrained sauerkraut (from 14-oz can)
  • 6 slices dark rye bread, toasted
  • 1/2 cup Thousand Island dressing
  • 6 thin slices (1/2 oz each) Swiss cheese
Instructions:
  • Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic in a skillet over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring often, until the beef is cooked through and the onion is soft; then, drain any excess fat.
  • Preheat the oven to broil. Warm the sauerkraut in a 1-quart saucepan and then drain it. Place the toasted bread slices on the broiler pan.
  • Mix the salad dressing with the beef blend, then spread it evenly on the bread slices. Add sauerkraut and Swiss cheese on top of each sandwich.
  • Place the sandwiches under the broiler, ensuring they are positioned 4 to 6 inches from the heat source. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
