Enhance ground cherries with warm spices and vanilla for a versatile and delicious topping or pie filling.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 4 cups ground cherries, husked
Instructions:
  • In a pan over medium-high heat, combine water, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Bring to a boil, then stir in the cherries. Simmer until cherries are transparent. Freeze in resealable bags or store in hot jars, leaving a 1/4-inch headspace. Seal and process in a boiling-water bath for 15 minutes.
