Indulge in a spooky and decadent chocolate cake crafted to resemble a black cat, perfect for satisfying your sweet cravings.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 2 1/2 cups from 2 tubs (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting
  • Tray or cardboard (20x14 inches), covered with wrapping paper and plastic food wrap or foil
  • 2 yellow Betty Crocker™ Fruit Gushers™ Fruit Snacks (from a 5.4-oz box) or 1 large yellow gumdrop
  • 1 small black gumdrop
  • Black shoestring licorice
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Grease 2 (8- or 9-inch) round cake pans with cooking spray.
  • Prepare and bake cakes in accordance with the instructions on the box for 8- or 9-inch round pans. Allow them to cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely, which should take about 1 hour. For a firmer texture, refrigerate or freeze the cakes for 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Trim the top of the cake to make it level using a serrated knife and place it cut-side down. Cut the cake into pieces and arrange them on a serving tray. Use a small amount of frosting to attach the pieces together. Spread a thin layer of frosting over the top and sides to seal in crumbs, then refrigerate the cake for 30 minutes.
  • Cover the entire cake with the remaining frosting, then decorate with yellow fruit snacks or gumdrop slices for the eyes, a black gumdrop for the nose, and shoestring licorice for the whiskers, lines on the eyes, and front paws. Store the cake loosely covered at room temperature.
