Create a spooky Halloween cake that's both easy to make and visually striking.
Ingredients:
  • 1 box (16.25 oz) white cake mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
  • 1 container fluffy white whipped ready-to-spread frosting
  • 1 roll chewy fruit snack, any flavor (from 5-oz box)
  • 1 tube (0.68 oz) black decorating gel
  • 1 tube (0.68 oz) red decorating gel
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 2-quart round ovenproof bowl generously with shortening and lightly dust with flour. Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions using water, oil, and egg whites. Pour the batter into the bowl.
  • Bake for 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes, then gently loosen it from the bowl with a knife and transfer it to a cooling rack. Let it cool completely for about 1 hour. Place the cake rounded side up on a serving plate, trimming as needed.
  • Prepare the cake by frosting it. Cut the fruit snack into a 3 1/2-inch circle using scissors. Decorate the cake by placing the cutout in the center on top. Enhance the design by piping black gel in the center of the fruit snack to create the pupil and using red gel for veins to give the appearance of a bloodshot eye.
