Excite kids with this spooky Halloween cake!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Devil's Food Cake Mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • 2 tubs (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • Betty Crocker™ neon gel food colors (orange, purple and lime green)
  • 1 package (0.88 oz) Betty Crocker™ Candy Shop candy eyeballs
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (or 325°F for dark or nonstick pans) and generously grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
  • In a spacious bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to blend together the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs for about 2 minutes. Remember to scrape the bowl occasionally. Once combined, evenly pour 1 1/3 cups of batter into each pan.
  • Bake cakes for 17 to 21 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes then remove from pans and cool completely on cooling racks for about 30 minutes.
  • Separate the frosting into 3 bowls with 1 cup in each bowl. Stir 1/2 teaspoon of a different food color into each bowl. Fill 3 decorating bags with a 1/2-inch round piping tip, each bag with a different color frosting. Place the first cake layer on a plate. Pipe a thick border of green frosting along the top edge of the cake layer. Spread more green frosting inside the border. Add the second cake layer and repeat the process with purple frosting. Place the third cake layer on top and repeat with orange frosting. Pipe the remaining frosting on top of the cake in various colors and sizes.
  • Get creative by arranging candy eyeballs on top of frosting mounds and around the sides of the cake. Keep the cake covered at room temperature.
