Iranian saffron and rose water halva, a luscious dessert, adorned with pistachios and almonds, is simple and quick to prepare.
Ingredients:
  • 0.75 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup rose water
  • 0.5 teaspoon saffron
  • 1 tablespoon crushed pistachios
  • 1 tablespoon crushed almonds
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, warm 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons of oil. Add flour and continue cooking over medium-low heat, stirring often, until it turns golden and thickens, which should take about 10 to 15 minutes. Let it cool briefly before using.
  • In a saucepan, bring water and sugar to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir in rose water and saffron, then add the flour mixture. Cook and stir until thickened in just 1 to 2 minutes. Serve halva topped with crushed pistachios and almonds.
