Persian halva: A decadent and floral dessert made with rosewater, saffron, butter, and flour. Ideal with tea or coffee.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.25 cup rose water
  • 3 saffron threads
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, combine sugar and water and bring to a boil, stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Mix in the fragrant rosewater and exotic saffron with the sugar mixture, then cover the saucepan and remove from the heat.
  • In a large saucepan, gently melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the flour until a smooth paste forms. Cook and stir until the paste becomes golden, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Whisk the sugar mixture into the paste until smooth, then remove the saucepan from the heat.
  • Evenly distribute the halva on a plate or platter. Use the back of a spoon or a knife to create a decorative pattern on the top. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour until set.
