Italian folded bread filled with delicious ingredients, similar to a calzone.
Ingredients:
  • 18.20 gm extra virgin olive oil
  • 2.40 gm sea salt flakes
  • 5.00 gm caster sugar
  • 437.50 ml bread and pizza plain flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 1/2 x 7g sachet dried yeast
  • 90.75 gm tomato pasta sauce
  • 50g shaved ham
  • 40g shaved hungarian salami
  • 125.00 ml roasted red capsicum strips, chopped
  • 5 fresh basil leaves, torn
  • 125.00 ml pizza cheese, grated
  • Salad, to serve
Instructions:
  • In a jug, mix together 2/3 cup of warm water, oil, salt, and sugar until the sugar dissolves.
  • Start by sifting the flour into a bowl and adding the yeast, then stir to combine. Create a well in the mixture and pour in the water mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms. Now, transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Next, place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with oiled plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Gently deflate dough with your fist. Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Roll out into a 22cm x 30cm rectangle between two sheets of baking paper. Remove the top sheet. Spread sauce evenly with a 2cm border. Arrange ham, salami, capsicum, and basil on top, then sprinkle with cheese.
  • Fold the edges of the dough over at both short ends. Place the dough with one long side facing you, fold 1/3 of the dough over 2/3 of the filling, then fold the dough over again to cover the filling completely. Roll the stromboli carefully with the seam side down. Transfer the stromboli on the baking paper to a baking tray and cover it with lightly oiled plastic wrap. Let it stand in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 220C (200C fan-forced) while you prepare the rest of the recipe.
  • Bake the stromboli until golden and cooked through, about 25 to 30 minutes. Let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing thickly. Enjoy with a rocket, kalamata olive, basil, and parmesan salad.
