This classic with a twist is too good to save for just holidays - it's a dream dinner come true!
Ingredients:
  • 1 container (2.8 oz) French-fried onions
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 lb fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1 1/2-inch lengths
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Progresso™ chicken broth (from 32-oz carton)
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (8 oz)
  • 1 cup finely chopped cooked ham
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and generously spray a 13x9-inch (3-quart) baking dish with cooking spray, setting aside 1/2 cup of French-fried onions for the topping.
  • In a large saucepan, bring 6 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the green beans and cook for 6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Drain the beans and return them to the pan. Set aside.
  • In a 3-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Stir in flour and salt until blended. Gradually mix in broth and half-and-half, and cook until sauce is smooth, bubbly, and thickened, stirring constantly for 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from heat and add cream cheese and Cheddar cheese, stirring until melted. Mix in the rest of the French-fried onions and ham.
  • Drizzle the cheesy mixture over the green beans and mix well to ensure they are evenly coated. Transfer the mixture into a baking dish and generously sprinkle the top with the 1/2 cup of French-fried onions that you set aside earlier.
  • Bake until hot and bubbly, around 25-30 minutes.
