Delight loved ones with a decadent chocolate dessert that will leave them speechless.
Ingredients:
  • 1 2/3 cups semisweet chocolate chunks
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • Crushed hard peppermint candies, if desired
  • 1/3 cup semisweet chocolate chunks
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup evaporated fat-free milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter or margarine
  • 1 cup whipping (heavy) cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F. Grease a 9x2 1/2-inch springform pan with shortening. In a 2-quart heavy saucepan, melt 1 cup of chocolate chunks and 1/2 cup of butter over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let the mixture cool for 5 minutes. Mix in flour until smooth, then stir in egg yolks until well blended.
  • Whip egg whites and cream of tartar in a big bowl with an electric mixer until foamy. Gradually add 1/2 cup granulated sugar, beating until soft peaks form. Gently fold a quarter of the egg whites into the chocolate mixture, then fold in the rest of the egg whites. Spread the mixture in a pan and sprinkle 2/3 cup chocolate chunks evenly over the top.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean and the top looks dry and cracked. Let it cool for 10 minutes before removing the side of the pan, but leave the cake on the pan bottom. Allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Heat chocolate chunks, granulated sugar, and milk in a 1-quart saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until chocolate is melted and mixture boils. Remove from heat and stir in butter just before serving.
  • In a chilled small bowl, use an electric mixer on high speed to beat the Sweetened Whipped Cream ingredients until stiff peaks form. Place the cake on a serving plate, drizzle with the sauce, and serve with the whipped cream. Sprinkle with candies for a delightful finish.
