Tender Brussels sprouts wok-tossed in a savory-sweet hoisin glaze.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts, rinsed, any older outer leaves discarded, stems trimmed slightly, sprouts sliced in half through the stem end
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil, or other vegetable oil
  • 1/2 large onion, sliced thinly root to tip
  • 2 teaspoons ginger, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced, about 1 teaspoon
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark sesame oil
  • Salt to taste
Instructions:
  • Combine the seasoned rice vinegar, soy sauce, and hoisin sauce in a small bowl and whisk together until well blended. Set aside.
  • Steam the brussels sprouts: Set up a steamer rack in a pot with an inch of boiling water. Steam the brussels sprouts covered for 5 minutes. Transfer the sprouts to a baking sheet to cool while proceeding with the onions.
  • In a hot wok, sauté the sliced onions in peanut oil until edges are golden brown, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Combine ginger, garlic, and brussels sprouts in the pan. Stir-fry for 2 minutes until brussels sprouts start to brown.
  • Combine the rice vinegar, soy sauce, and hoisin sauce mixture with the sprouts and gently toss. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, being vigilant to prevent scorching. Finish with a drizzle of sesame oil and salt to your liking. Serve immediately.
