Chef John's delectable honey-garlic shrimp: the ultimate sweet and savory dish for a cozy weeknight dinner for two.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound large raw shrimp (16-20 count), peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 0.5 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce, or more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Asian fish sauce, or to taste
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup thinly sliced green onion, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Ensure the shrimp are completely thawed and properly drained. Refrigerate them as you prepare the marinade.
  • Combine garlic, honey, ginger, soy sauce, and fish sauce in a bowl and whisk until well blended.
  • Toss shrimp with a spatula for 2 minutes until fully coated. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator for 30 to 60 minutes, tossing occasionally.
  • Prepare a large nonstick skillet with a light coating of oil and heat over high heat until wisps of smoke appear. Quickly use tongs to place shrimp in a single layer in the skillet. Reserve any extra marinade for later use.
  • - Sear shrimp for 2 minutes, then flip over. - Add marinade and cook for 1 minute. - Turn off heat, flip shrimp once more, and let sit for about 1 minute until a beautiful glaze forms. - Garnish with green onion before serving.
