Create a beautiful lattice pie crust for your favorite pies using these simple steps and images.
Ingredients:
  • 1 batch pie dough , enough for top and bottom crusts
Instructions:
  • Prepare the dough: Roll out half of the pie dough and line your pie dish, extending the dough by about 1/2 inch. Chill in the refrigerator. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the remaining half of the pie dough to match the first half. Chill if too soft, then proceed with the lattice top.
  • Slice the dough into uniform strips, measuring 1/2 to 3/4 inches wide based on your desired lattice thickness. Use a blunt knife with or without a guide, or opt for a pizza wheel or pastry wheel for a precise cut.
  • Spread the pie filling in the pie shell. Place 4 to 7 evenly spaced pie dough strips on top of the filling. Fold back alternating strips.
  • Lay one long strip of dough across the parallel strips. Unfold the folded strips over the long strip.
  • Fold and weave parallel strips: Take the strips underneath the perpendicular strip and fold them over, as shown. Add a second perpendicular strip with space between. Unfold the folded strips over the second strip.
  • Continue weaving the dough strips over the top of the pie until fully covered.
  • Trim the dough strips to be flush with the pie dish edge and fold back the shell rim over the lattice strips, crimping to secure.
  • Bake pie as directed in your recipe until golden brown. Allow it to cool for at least an hour before serving. Enjoy and don't forget to leave a rating and comment if you loved it!
