Quick and easy hush puppies with a delicious celery and garlic twist, ready in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients:
  • 1 quart vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup self-rising cornmeal
  • 0.5 onion, minced
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 stalk celery, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pinch Cajun seasoning, or to taste
Instructions:
  • Preheat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 375°F (190°C).
  • Combine flour, cornmeal, onion, milk, egg, celery, garlic, and Cajun seasoning in a bowl, creating a flavorful mix.
  • Use a spoon to gently place five ping pong ball-sized batter balls into the hot oil. Fry until they turn a beautiful golden brown, approximately 5 minutes. Then, carefully lift out the hush puppies with a slotted spoon and let them drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Repeat the process with the rest of the batter.
