Bake a delightful dessert with spiced apples, sticky caramel, and flaky pastry - a seasonal treat with hidden surprises!
Ingredients:
  • 40g (1/4 cup) plain flour
  • 50g butter, chilled, chopped
  • 25g (1/4 cup) instant rolled oats
  • 30g (1/4 cup) walnuts, finely chopped
  • 16.00 gm brown sugar
  • 6 (about 200g each) Sundowner apples
  • 6 sheets frozen puff pastry, just thawed
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 egg, lightly whisked
  • 10.00 gm raw sugar
  • Caramel sauce, to serve
  • Double cream, to serve
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 200C/180C fan forced, then line a baking tray with baking paper. In a bowl, combine flour and butter, rubbing them together with your fingertips until fine crumbs form. Mix in the oats, walnuts, and sugar.
  • Core the apples using an apple corer, making a 2cm round hole by coring twice for a slightly larger opening.
  • Cut the pastry sheet into a large round. Center an apple on the pastry. Fill the apple with crumble, pressing firmly. Add a cinnamon stick. Seal the apple in the pastry, brush with egg, add pastry leaf decorations, sprinkle with sugar, and transfer to a tray. Repeat to make 6 apples.
  • Bake the apples until beautifully golden and crisp, about 30-35 minutes. Drizzle with caramel sauce and serve with a dollop of cream.
