Impress with homemade inside-out sushi rolls.
Ingredients:
  • 400.00 gm sushi rice, rinsed
  • 42.90 gm sushi seasoning
  • 20.00 gm caster sugar
  • 75.00 gm sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 small carrot, peeled, grated
  • 1/2 small Lebanese cucumber, cut into thin matchsticks
  • 3 sheets nori (roasted seaweed)
  • Kikkoman soy sauce, to serve
Instructions:
  • Prepare the rice according to package instructions. Let it cool slightly. Gently mix in sushi seasoning, sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt using a rice paddle or plastic spatula.
  • Place plastic wrap over sushi mat for easy cleanup. Evenly spread 2 tablespoons sesame seeds on the mat. Use a palette knife to press one-third of the rice over the sesame seeds. Layer one-third of the carrot and cucumber near you. Place 1 nori sheet shiny side down on top.
  • Hold the edge of the mat closest to you with your thumbs and index fingers and use your other fingers to secure the filling in place. Roll the mat tightly to wrap the rice over the filling. Gently peel back the wrap from the rice and continue rolling the mat to shape the roll.
  • Wrap the sushi roll in plastic wrap and gently press to seal. Place on a board. Repeat with the remaining sesame seeds, rice, carrot, cucumber, and nori to make 2 additional rolls.
  • Slice each sushi roll into 8 bite-sized pieces. Present the pieces elegantly on a plate and accompany them with a side of soy sauce for dipping.
