Instant Pot® quickly transforms fresh apples into fragrant, smooth applesauce in just five minutes under high pressure.
Ingredients:
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 (1/4 inch thick) slice fresh ginger
  • 1 star anise pod
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 piece cheesecloth
  • 3 pounds apples - peeled, cored, and quartered
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, or more to taste
Instructions:
  • Peel 2 thick strips of lemon using a vegetable peeler, ensuring to avoid the bitter pith. Bundle lemon peel, cinnamon stick, ginger, star anise, and cloves in cheesecloth for convenient removal later.
  • In a multi-functional pressure cooker like Instant Pot®, add apples, cheesecloth bundle, water, and salt. Close the lid securely. Follow manufacturer's instructions to select high pressure and set timer for 5 minutes. Let pressure build for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • After 15 to 20 minutes, safely release pressure using the natural-release method as per the manufacturer's instructions. Be cautious of hot applesauce potentially spluttering through the vent. Lastly, remove and discard the cheesecloth bundle using a slotted spoon.
  • Incorporate brown sugar into the applesauce until fully dissolved, then taste and adjust sweetness as desired.
