Indulge in a rich and flavorful gravy inspired by KFC, merging beef and chicken bouillon with caramelized onion and a velvety homemade roux for a delightful twist.
Ingredients:
  • 3 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 5 tablespoons unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons beef bouillon
  • 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions:
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter. Cook onion, stirring occasionally, until translucent, for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the remaining butter and allow it to melt completely. Whisk in the flour until a thick paste, similar to cake frosting, is formed.
  • Whisk constantly and cook until the flour turns golden and starts to smell toasty, around 20 minutes.
  • Whisk together water and both bouillons until smooth. Add pepper and bring to a boil.
  • Thicken by cooking and stirring until it reaches a gravy-like consistency, about 8 to 10 minutes.
